VIC: Firefighters battle new inaccessible lightning strikes
MELBOURNE, Jan 17 AAP - Firefighters are battling three largely inaccessible fires caused
by lightning in Victoria's east this afternoon.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) is bombing the fires with fixed
wing aircraft and helicopters and dropping crews by helicopter in a bid to contain the fires.
NRE central fire coordinator Richard Alder said one of the fires was in the Alpine Nation
Park, north of Hayfield, near the scene of a major and devastating fire last summer.
