JOHN GIAMBERSO APPOINTED AS SEATTLE CHANNEL GENERAL MANAGER

SEATTLE, July 15 -- The city of Seattle issued the following news release:

After an extensive national search, John Giamberso has been appointed as SEATTLE CHANNEL General Manager. "This was an extraordinarily competitive process. We had a number of excellent applicants for the job," says Bill Schrier, the City's Chief Technology Officer and Director of the Department of Information Technology (DoIt).

Giamberso has deep experience in television production and web streaming. He was Station Manager at King County Television, a manager with the private cable company Comcast and, for the last decade, has worked at SEATTLE CHANNEL, first as the Operations Manager and then as the Production Manager.

"John has been an integral part of the team at SEATTLE CHANNEL that has built a national reputation with innovative quality programming covering politics, communities and art," says Gary Gibson, the director of DoIt's Office of Electronic Communications.

DoIt's Director Schrier says, "Every day for the past decade at the Channel, John has demonstrated his leadership. Moreover, while interviewing for the job, John put forth a clear vision for pushing the speeding bullet that is the Channel-an innovative, award-winning, high-quality video, arts and news team-even further and faster."

Giamberso says, "I could not have been appointed to this job without the work of SEATTLE CHANNEL's incredibly talented staff. I look forward to continuing our work together to serve the people of Seattle with video that builds community."

SEATTLE CHANNEL presents programs on cable television (channel 21 on Comcast and Broadstripe) and via the Internet to help citizens connect with their city. Programming includes series and special features highlighting the diverse civic and cultural landscape of the Pacific Northwest's premier city. SEATTLE CHANNEL's web site, http://www.seattlechannel.org/, offers streaming video worldwide, and includes an archive featuring video on demand of all programs. The station is a Government Access Channel granted to the City of Seattle per federal law for the purpose of cablecasting government television programs. It is administered by the Seattle Channel unit of the City of Seattle's Department of Information Technology.
